The foreign ministers of P5+1 and Iran have resumed nuclear talks on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program following meetings of political directors and experts on Wednesday, Catherine Rey, spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, said.

LAUSANNE (Sputnik) — Iran and P5+1 group (occasionally referred to as "E3/EU+3" group), comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, have extended the negotiations drawing up a framework for the deal on Tehran's nuclear issue past the Tuesday deadline.

"Ministerial meeting of E3/EU+3 and Iran just resumed after meeting of Political Directors," Rey tweeted.

Mogherini is mediating the talks between the nations.

The international negotiators are trying to get Iran to halt their uranium enrichment program and decrease the number of centrifuges. A comprehensive deal ensuring the peaceful uses of the Iranian nuclear energy program is due to by July 2015.
