MADRID (Sputnik) – No breakthroughs are expected in talks over Greece’s economic aid and reform programs before the end of the week, but an agreement should be reached by the end of April, President of the European Council Donald Tusk said Tuesday.
“I don’t see any breakthroughs before Easter,” Tusk said during a press conference in Madrid. Catholic Easter is celebrated on April 5 this year.
Greece's debt to the troika of foreign creditors, comprising the European Union, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, stands at about $270 billion.
In February, Athens and Eurozone finance ministers agreed to extend Greece's bailout for four months in exchange for a promise by Athens to implement a list of reforms.
According to local media, Athens presented its list of reforms to be implemented by the government in order to be eligible to receive further loans by EU banks on Friday. The new set of reforms is expected to help Greece save more than $3 billion over the next three years.
