LAUSANNE (Sputnik) — The meeting between the foreign ministers of Iran and P5+1 countries is likely to be held in Lausanne on Sunday, but the top diplomats will move to the United Nations building in Geneva if a concluding meeting is needed, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Friday.
"We will have probably the ministerial meeting on Sunday," Araqchi told journalists, answering Sputnik's question.
"It would be in Lausanne, but if there would be any concluding meeting we will move to Geneva to the UN building," Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister added.
Earlier in the day, Araqchi told Sputnik that the negotiators were working hard to strike an agreement.
The latest round of talks on Tehran's contested nuclear program between Iran and P5+1 group, comprising Russia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, is currently underway in Lausanne, Switzerland, and will terminate on March 29.
The P5+1 and Iran have been negotiating the nuclear issue for over a year, as the West accuses Tehran of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Iran repeatedly rejected this claim, stating that its uranium enrichment program was for civilian purposes only.
The negotiating parties are expected to work out a political framework agreement by the end of March. A comprehensive deal ensuring the peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear activities is set to be reached by July 2015.
