MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry agreed Friday that Moscow and Washington share similar views on many aspects of the long-sought Iran nuclear deal, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Lavrov and Kerry discussed in a phone call the progress in current talks between P5+1 mediators and Tehran in Switzerland aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement with Iran over its controversial nuclear program.

In addition, Lavrov and Kerry agreed the possibility of a ministerial meeting at Iran talks in Lausanne on March 29.

Concluding Meeting on Nuclear Program to Be Held in Geneva – Iran’s Envoy
Earlier in the day, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told Sputnik that ministerial-level negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program could happen on Sunday in Lausanne.

Russia and the United States are part of the P5+1 group, as well as the United Kingdom, China, France and Germany. The group and Tehran have been holding negotiations on Iran's disputed nuclear program.

The West has repeatedly accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran rejected those claims, stating its nuclear program had civilian implications only.

Tehran and the international mediators are expected to reach a political framework agreement on the nuclear issue in March, and a long-term comprehensive deal by July.
