General director of Iran’s Foreign Ministry Political and International Security Department, Hamid Baedinejad, said that P5+1 mediators should make tough decisions which are necessary to concluding this part of the negotiations.

LAUSANNE (Sputnik) — It is P5+1 mediators' turn to make tough decisions to reach a compromise on the long-sought comprehensive nuclear deal with Iran, a senior Iranian diplomat said Friday.

"Now these are basically our partners who should make tough decisions which are necessary to concluding this part of the negotiations," general director of Iran's Foreign Ministry Political and International Security Department, Hamid Baedinejad, said.

"Those tough decisions relate to the unresolved issues and we are concentrating on a number of solutions for some substantive issues that are under consideration," he added.

Baedinejad, answering Sputnik's question, named sanctions and research and development part of these issues.

"We are on the process of discussions. All parties are trying to find solutions which will be acceptable to all. We will try our best until the last moment," Baedinejad said, adding that some gaps have been narrowed in the current talks on Tehran's nuclear program.

Baedinejad stated that the sides could reach a political agreement by Sunday, March 29, when the new round of talks on Iran"s nuclear program ends.

The West has long accused Iran for trying to develop nuclear weapons, and imposed several rounds of sanctions against the country. Tehran repeatedly denied those claims, stating its nuclear program was for peaceful purposes only.

Iran and P5+1 group, comprising Russia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, have been conducting talks on the Islamic republic's nuclear program since November 2013.

A final deal is expected by July 2015, while a political framework for the agreement is anticipated by the end of March.
