According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, meeting of Russian, Belarusian and Kazakh leaders scheduled to take place later this week in the Kazakh capital of Astana has been postponed.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) A meeting of Russian, Belarusian and Kazakh leaders scheduled to take place later this week in the Kazakh capital of Astana has been postponed, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

"Indeed, the leaders of the three states decided to postpone the meeting for several days," he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was to visit Astana March 12-13 for the three-party meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

An anonymous Kazakh diplomatic source said earlier Wednesday the meeting had been postponed.

The three leaders were to discuss mutually important economic and political issues, such as deeper trade cooperation and "global economic trends," a statement on the Kazakh president's official website said Monday. The agenda of the meeting also included the situation in Ukraine.

Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan are long-time economic partners and founding members of the Eurasian Economic Union, a bloc to enable the free flow of goods, capital and labor between the member nations. The union came into force on January 1, 2015. Armenia and Kyrgyzstan accession is pending.
