MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Moscow celebrations surrounding the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II is currently discussed, a senior Turkish diplomat said Tuesday.
"Yes, there is a mutual invitation from both sides, to which special importance is attached. With regard to it [a visit to the 70th anniversary], the final schedule has not been approved yet," Turkish Ambassador to Russia Umit Yardim said at a press conference.
At least 22 heads of states have already confirmed their intent to arrive at the event to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. For the most part, these are the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Asian countries.
Russia celebrates Victory Day on May 9, whereas it is commemorated on May 8 in Europe and America. In 2015, military parades will be held in dozens of Russian cities, including Moscow.
