EU FMs Decide to Extend Individual Sanctions Over Ukraine Until September
MOSCOW, January 30 (Sputnik) — The European Union missed a chance to stop simplifying its perception of the situation in Ukraine once again, extending the anti-Russia sanctions until September, Russia's EU envoy Vladimir Chizhov said Thursday.

The EU foreign ministers adopted on Thursday a decision to keep in force sanctions targeting individuals and entities allegedly involved in the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis until September 2015.

"If to talk about the content of the conclusions [of the EU Foreign Affairs Council], then, unfortunately, the European Union has once again missed the chance to get out of the rut of a simplistic and mechanistic perception of what is happening in eastern Ukraine, out of the rut of the sanctions' pressure on Russia and one-dimensional perception of the reality," Chizhov said commenting on the results of the council.

The results of the EU Foreign Affairs Council are predictable enough against the Western hysteria over the last few days, according to the envoy.

It is regrettable, but the adopted decisions expose EU's partnership with Russia to an additional test, Chizhov added.

An extraordinary EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting was called as the situation in southeastern Ukraine deteriorated in the first weeks of January.

Since March 2014, the Unites States, the European Union and their allies has imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia, accusing the country of meddling in the Ukrainian conflict.
