MOSCOW, January 26 (Sputnik) – Moscow will hinder all attempts by Kiev to disrupt efforts in the peace process in eastern Ukraine, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said Monday.

“We will decisively hamper in the future attempts by the ‘war party’ in Kiev and its foreign sponsors to create provocations directed at disrupting all efforts in the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,” Karasin said during a Federation Council meeting in Moscow.

Despite a ceasefire deal achieved between Ukraine's government and independence supporters in September, military confrontation between the warring parties is currently on the rise in the eastern regions of Ukraine. There have been several deadly shelling incidents in Ukraine's Donbas region, which led to mass civilian casualties.

The most recent shelling took place on Saturday in Mariupol, a Kiev-controlled port city, killing at least 30 people, according to estimates by authorities. The Donetsk militia and Ukrainian forces have been trading the blame for the attack.

Russia has repeatedly urged both Kiev and the representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics to continue with political dialogue and avoid escalating the conflict.
