BRISBANE, November 15 (Sputnik) – The Ukraine crisis was the main topic of the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and UK Prime Minister David Cameron on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Brisbane on Saturday, though Syria and Islamic State (IS) jihadist group were also discussed, the presidential spokesperson said.
"In general, the two sides exchanged views on the current phase in the Ukrainian crisis. Cameron outlined his vision of the situation in southeastern Ukraine. President Putin gave a very detailed comment," press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"The rather long talk was mainly on Ukraine, but the sides also raised the Syria issue and ISIL," Peskov added using an alternative name for Islamic State.
The Russian delegation, headed by President Vladimir Putin, arrived in Brisbane on Friday to attend the ninth G20 summit. Before the start of the summit, the Western media anticipated Russia would come in for heavy criticism by the summit's western participants over allegedly being involved in the internal crisis in Ukraine. The summit, however, has so far proved to be another platform providing an opportunity to join forces against global challenges.
Putin has so far had meetings with a number of leaders. The meetings were marked by mutual understanding to ameliorate the relations between Russia and the West that have gone downhill since the eruption of crisis in Ukraine, with several rounds of sanctions currently being in force against Russia.
