MINSK, November 14 (Sputnik) — Western countries are beginning to view the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) as a real international player and are willing to cooperate with it, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Alexander Mikhnevich stated Friday.

"The situation is different now … The understanding that the EEU is a serious formation, a real formation, is coming to the EU," Mikhnevich said at the Belarussian Investment Forum in London.

He added that meetings held in the framework of a similar event in the United States have shown that the country is also willing to cooperate with the EEU.

The deputy foreign minister stressed starting January 1, 2015, there will be a new subject of international law, with its own charter, powers, rights and obligations. "We are preparing a package of documents to register it in the UN, the WTO, the EU and other similar associations and organizations of the international level," Mikhnevich said.

Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan signed a treaty establishing EEU in May and have already ratified the agreement, which is to come into force on January 1, 2015. The republics of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have also expressed interest in joining the organization.

On October 10, EEU leaders signed an agreement on Armenia's accession to the union.
