Corneliu Mihalache, parliamentary candidate from the Moldova’s Communist Party stated that signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union has resulted in the country being leased out to the bloc.

MOSCOW, November 13 (Sputnik), Daria Chernyshova — Moldova’s signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union has resulted in the country being leased out to the 28-member bloc, Corneliu Mihalache, parliamentary candidate from the country’s Communist Party told Sputnik on Thursday.

“Having signed this agreement, our [Moldovan] officials leased out our country to the European Union,” Mihalache said, accusing the country’s authorities of committing a political crime as the agreement was signed secretly.

“This agreement was a secret agreement, as the text was announced only after signing. It was never passed through the parliament or through the civil society,” Mihalache told RIA Novosti.

On November 13, the European Parliament voted in favor of ratifying the Association Agreement with Moldova. The ratification was passed by an overwhelming majority of 529 of the parliament’s 751 members.

On June 27, Moldova signed the agreement with the European Union, which includes provisions for the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA).

“The authorities signed the agreement without consulting our traditional Russian partners and that is a political crime, because Russia is our traditional partner strategically and economically,” Mihalache said, adding that “signing the Association Agreement with the European Union has brought about many problems and they are not being solved, because Chisinau now leads a single-vector foreign policy against the interests of the Moldovan people.”

Moreover, Mihalache pointed out that the Moldovan authorities are now obliged to restore good relations with the Russian Federation and to review the Association Agreement.

“Our party, the Party of Communists argues for holding a referendum and that the foreign policy of Moldova should be defined by the people,” he said adding that over the past five years the Moldovan authorities made too many mistakes, including “declaring a trade war against Russia.”

According to Mihalache, the country faces an excess of produce left unsold and encounters energy problems, while in the long run, Moldovan producers “who are not ready to go to the European markets” will completely vanish.
