Turkey has no intention and technologies for the development of nuclear weapons, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said in a statement obtained by RIA Novosti Wednesday.

ANKARA, September 24 (RIA Novosti) – Turkey has no intention and technologies for the development of nuclear weapons, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said in a statement obtained by RIA Novosti Wednesday.

"Over the past two months, we were accused of three things: selling fuel to Israel, buying oil from the Islamic State and now - that we are going to produce nuclear weapons, and that the president had allegedly given an instruction for uranium enrichment ... Turkey does not have such technologies and intentions," the document says.

German newspaper Die Welt reported that Turkey has been secretly developing nuclear weapons and uses the Iranian nuclear program as a strategic model.

According to Yildiz, the allegations "are not technical, but political” and have a goal to discredit Turkey.

The minister added that Turkey is a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and is subject to control on the part of the Agency. "Every year the agency conducts appropriate inspections. And in 2013 we received an award from IAEA,” the minister said.
