Comedy actor Robin Williams was found dead August 11 in his home in Tiburon, California. He was 63. Williams’ death was preliminary ruled suicide, with a police official saying the actor hung himself with a belt.

American fashion legend Oscar de la Renta passed away October 20, in Kent; he was the oldest fashion designer in the country. In 2006, the press office of Oscar de la Renta fashion house said the designer was diagnosed with cancer. However, in 2013, it was reported the designer had successfully undergone therapy and recovered from sickness. One of his last works was a wedding dress for George Clooney’s wife Amal Alamuddin.

American actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died on February 2, at the age of 46, after taking a lethal mixture of drugs. His death sparked public outcry, many critics called it a grievous loss.

Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva, head of the House Alba passed away November 20, at the age of 88, in Seville. The Duchess of Alba was the most titled aristocrat in the world (seven dukedoms, 23 marquessates and 19 countships), according to The Telegraph.

Wojciech Witold Jaruzelsky, a Polish military official and politician, died on May 25, in a Warsaw hospital after suffering a stroke. He was 90. Jaruzesky lived longer than any other leader of Western European socialist countries of the early 1980s.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon died January 11, after heart failure at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center. Since January 2006, Sharon had been in a vegetative state.

Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez died of renal failure and pneumonia at the age of 87, on April 17, at his home in Mexico City. His wife Mercedes Barcha and sons Rodrigo and Gonzalo were beside the novelist until his last minute. The Colombian government declared three days of mourning after his death.

Viktor Tikhonov, famous ice hockey coach and three-time Olympic champion, died after a long illness on November 24. He was 85. The cause of Tikhonov’s death was cardiac arrest.

Rossiya Segodnya photojournalist Andrei Stenin was killed on August 6 near Snezhnoe, Donetsk region. Since May 13, 2014, Stenin had been on an editorial assignment to Ukraine and worked in Kiev, Donetsk, Luhansk, Mariupol, Shahktarsk and Slavyansk. Stenin went missing August 5, while he was working in southeastern Ukraine in a military conflict zone. He was 33.

Anatoly Klyan, a cameraman from Russia’s Channel 1 television station, was killed while performing an editorial assignment. Klyan worked in TV for more than 40 years. He traveled to numerous conflict zones, worked in Yugoslavia, Chechnya, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. On the night of June 30, Klyan and his news crew came under fire, and he was fatally shot.

Igor Kornelyuk, a correspondent for Russian VGTRK Media Holding was sent on a mission to Ukraine on June 1. On Jun 17, his VGTRK news crew came under mortar fire near Luhansk. Sound engineer Anton Voloshin was killed. Kornelyuk was severely wounded and died at hospital 35 minutes after he arrived.
