Get short URL
The Schönbrunn Zoo, located in Vienna, is the oldest zoo in the world. It was founded in 1752 as an imperial menagerie, at the request of Emperor Franz I. In fact, a menagerie has existed at this location since 1570.

Many of the world's zoos, including in Moscow, have histories dating back centuries. These places are worth visiting not only for their exotic residents, but as cultural and architectural monuments as well. This slideshow was prepared by the editorial staff of the RIA Novosti "In Moscow" portal.
