The Leavesden Studio where the Harry Potter films were filmed is located on the site of a former airfield. During the Second World War, planes were manufactured here for the Ministry of Defense and, later on, Rolls-Royce aircraft engines.

When producers chose this site to create a studio for filming the books by children's author J.K. Rowling, there was just a big hangar here. Today all the props and scenery from the very first series have been preserved.
At the entrance visitors are greeted by the Great Hall of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the tables are laid in readiness for the pupils.
There is no ceiling here, so that people can see how floating candles have been created by computer graphics. The candles were real, hanging from fishing lines, which were then replicated by the computers.
The Warner Bros. Studio is no theme park; it consists of the original scenery, costumes and props. That is why this is not just a place of entertainment but also offers a unique insight into how films with this level of special effects are made.
You can look in detail at the doll of the house elf Dobby. This doll appeared in many episodes - only afterwards were special effects added to make Dobby come to life.
As well as being able to study details, the studio also offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in the atmosphere of the Harry Potter stories. A section of Diagon Alley has been recreated here: you can walk along it and peer in through the shop windows.
A section of the exhibition is located outside. This is where the family home of Harry Potter's parents is located. Production designer for the films Stuart Craig was inspired by villages in the English county of Suffolk and recreated one of the houses for the films.
The most impressive exhibit is the copy of the castle in which Hogwarts is located. Eighty-six artists worked on this model, 16 meters in diameter, which appeared in all the films. Every four minutes the lighting effects change the day into night, and the burning torches in the towers create the impression of a living castle.
