Two tourism police near the Giza pyramids in Cairo were shot dead by a gunman on a motorcycle on Wednesday in a rare attack near a tourist site.
No group claimed immediate responsibility for the attack but Islamist militants trying to topple the governments have in the past killed hundreds of police and soldiers, usually at checkpoints or police stations.
Tourism is one of the top sources of income and foreign currency earnings for Egypt.
