TOMSK, December 5 (RIA Novosti) – A newborn baby girl, whose body was found last month in a landfill near the Siberian city of Tomsk, died from alcohol poisoning, Russian investigators said Thursday.
Police called for a forensic examination when they found no marks on the infant’s body after she was discovered on November 5.
Investigators said either the newborn’s mother breastfed her while intoxicated, or the baby was given alcohol to drink.
Police have not identified any suspects in the case, but have opened a criminal case for murder of a newborn child by its mother, which carries a maximum punishment up five years in prison under Russian law.
