MOSCOW, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - A pregnant woman in Russia’s republic of Bashkortostan turned the tables on a would-be car thief, hitting him in the head with his weapon despite having been wounded in the stomach, local police said on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old suspect, who was not named, attacked his 30-year-old victim in a bid to steal her Toyota Land Cruiser Prado after she was driving away from a kindergarten, where she dropped off her three-year-old son, the local Interior Ministry said in a statement.
“The woman put up active resistance,” the Interior Ministry said, without specifying when the incident took place. “The suspect inflicted a knife wound to her stomach… The brave lady driver managed to snatch the knife from the criminal’s hands and deliver a blow to his head with his own weapon.”
Doctors who arrived at the scene to give the woman, who was four months pregnant, medical assistance said the life of her unborn child was not at risk.
The suspect, who was detained not far from the scene, faces up to ten years in prison if convicted.
