"When the Senate takes up the National Defense Authorization Act in September, I will offer an amendment based on the advice of some our best military leaders that will provide a strategy for success in achieving America's national interests in Afghanistan," McCain said.
The Trump administration has failed in the last six months to put together a strategy to reach success in Afghanistan, McCain said.
McCain added that the Obama administration’s strategy cost the United States lives and treasure in Afghanistan.
On July 14, the US House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act for 2018 in a 344-82 vote. The policy envisions $696 billion for the US Department of Defense, which is $93 billion higher than the budget requested by the White House.
