"Raytheon Missile Systems is being awarded $45,395,007 for a firm-fixed-price delivery order under a previously awarded contract as a bridge action for performance-based logistics support of the Phalanx Close-In-Weapon System," the release stated.
The Phalanx is a rapid-fire, computer-controlled and radar-guided Gatling gun designed to defeat anti-ship missiles and other surface threats.
Raytheon will manage the Phalanx systems by furnishing repaired and new units for 1,041 line items under prescribed performance metrics in response to Navy fleet requirements, the release explained.
One firm was solicited for the non-competitive requirement and offered in accordance with US federal acquisition regulations, according to the release. Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, is the contracting activity.
This order includes an 18-month performance period and work will be conducted in the city of Louisville in the US state of Kentucky.
The weapon system is installed on all US Navy surface combatant ship classes and on those of 24 allied nations, according to Raytheon.
