US Altered Intel Reports to Portray Anti-Daesh Fight in More Positive Light
06:54 GMT 10.08.2016 (Updated: 11:07 GMT 06.08.2022) The US Central Command (CENTCOM) have altered the intelligence reports to cast the US fight against the Daesh jihadist group, as well as al-Qaeda, in a more favorable light, The Daily Beast reported Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The conclusion was made by a House Republican task force, The Daily Beast said, citing sources familiar with the situation, adding that the panel's report is expected to be published the end of the week.
"The investigation is ongoing but the report substantiates the claims [that the intelligence data was altered]," one official familiar with report was quoted as saying by the publication.
Although there is no definitive evidence that high-ranking officials in the Obama administration ordered officials within CENTCOM to falsify intelligence data, the panel's findings confirmed earlier reports that analysts felt pressure from the heads of CENTCOM’s intelligence directorate to present the Daesh-posed threat not as terrible as they believed, the sources told the news outlet reported.
CENTCOM officials, in their turn, told the publication that they could not comment on a report that they have not received yet.
Daesh is a jihadist group notorious for its human rights abuses, including multiple kidnappings and killings. It is outlawed in the United States and Russia among other countries.
