WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier on Friday, US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt welcomed the dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island to Ukraine in a Twitter post.

"The USS Ross looks forward to turning into the Bosphorus Straits once again to participate during this year’s iteration of Sea Breeze," Commanding Officer Russell Caldwell stated.

Sea Breeze is an annual air, land and maritime exercise designed to improve maritime safety, security and stability in the Black Sea, according to the US Navy.

US and Ukrainian forces commenced the 15th iteration of Sea Breeze in Odessa on July 18. The 2016 exercises involve about 2,300 personnel from 13 nations.
