MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The factory will also deliver three helicopters for use in the Arctic to the Russian Armed Forces by the end of the year.

"In the framework of the state defense order, eight Mi-8AMTSh military transport helicopters were already manufactured in 2016 and delivered to the Russian Defense Ministry. Six more such helicopters will be delivered by the end of the year," Leonid Belykh said.

He added that two more Arctic-ready versions of the Mi-8 would enter into the service of the Russian Armed Forces in 2017.

The Mi-8AMTSh is an armored assault version of the Mi-8 helicopter. The main role of this version is to carry cargo and troops and support them with firepower if necessary. The Mi-8AMTSh can also perform evacuation and combat search and rescue missions.
