A non-existent threat of missile attacks from Syria gives NATO a pretext to deploy its defense systems in Turkey, Russia's envoy to the alliance told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — NATO is deploying missile defense systems in Turkey under the pretext of a non-existent threat of missile attacks from Syria, Russia's envoy to the alliance told Sputnik on Thursday.

"NATO countries are alternately placing Patriot systems in Turkey to protect the country from a clearly nonexistent threat of missile attacks from Syria," Alexander Grushko said.
