At Least 8 States to Take Part in Airborne Platoon's International Stage

The 2016 International Army Games' competition for airborne troops will be attended by teams from Kazakhstan, Iran, Venezuela and Egypt for the first time.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least eight countries have already confirmed the participation of their servicemen in the 2016 International Army Games' competition for airborne troops dubbed Airborne Platoon, the Russian Defense Ministry announced Wednesday.

"Representatives of eight countries' military departments have confirmed the participation. For the first time, the international stage of the competition will be attended by teams from Kazakhstan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Venezuela and the Arab Republic of Egypt," the ministry said in a statement.

Representatives of the Indian and Pakistani defense ministries intend to participate in the competition as observers, the statement added.

The 2016 International Army Games are expected to be held from August 1 to August 15. As many as 23 competitions will take place in polygons of Russia and Kazakhstan, as well as in the Caspian and Black Seas.

Airborne Platoon is the competition among airborne troops, which is due to take place at the Rayevsky training area located in Russia's Krasnodar Territory on August 3-12, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The first International Army Games competition, was held in August 2015, and attracted more than 2,000 participants from 17 countries. Some 11 different locations across Russia hosted elements of the contest.
