The Shanghai Cooperation Organization said that unilateral buildup of missile defense systems could damage stability in the world.

TASHKENT (Sputnik) — Unilateral buildup of missile defense systems could harm stability in the world, while one country cannot ensure its own safety at the expense of other states, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) states said Friday in the final declaration of the organization’s summit in Tashkent.

"The Member States reaffirm that the unilateral and unlimited buildup of missile defense systems by one state or group of states without taking into account interests of other countries can be harmful to international and regional security and stability. The Member States are firmly convinced of the inadmissibility of ensuring own security at the expense of others," the declaration reads.

The heads of the SCO member states stressed the importance of preventing the militarization of outer space, supporting measures to prevent an arms race there, including preparation of the international agreement to ban arms deployment in the outer space.
