BERLIN (Sputnik) — German media reported earlier in the day that the Turkish authorities forbade a delegation of German lawmakers from visiting Incirlik air base following the recognition of the Armenian genocide by Ottoman Empire in Germany.
"I can confirm that there is a visit of German Defense Ministry State Secretary [Ralf] Brauksiepe, as well as Bundestag lawmakers to the Incirlik Air Force base scheduled for July. At the moment, it can not be conducted as originally planned because the Turkish authorities have not approved the plan of the trip… Turkish Foreign Ministry reported that to the German ambassador," the spokesperson said in a statement.
Earlier in June, the German parliament adopted a bill recognizing the mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman authorities in 1915 as genocide. The Turkish Foreign Ministry called the move shameful.
