The US Navy has awarded a $43.1 million contract to the Airborne Tactical Advantage Company, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) –  Under the contract the company to create privately-owned subsonic and supersonic aircraft in a series of airborne threat simulation capabilities.

“Airborne Tactical Advantage Company [of] Newport News, Virginia, is being awarded a $43.1 million… contract to exercise an option in support of the Contracted Air Services (CAS) Program,” the release, issued on Tuesday, stated.

The CAS Program provides contractor owned and operated Type III High Subsonic and Type IV Supersonic aircraft to United States Navy Fleet customers for a wide variety of airborne threat simulation capabilities, the Defense Department explained.

The Airborne Tactical Advantage Company is a government contractor that operates British-built Mark-58 Hawker Hunters, Israeli F-21 Kfirs and US A-4 Skyhawks in tactical flight training roles for the US Navy, Air Force and Air National Guard. Its main air base is Naval Air Station Point Mugu.
