MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The share of new missile systems in the Strategic Missile Forces of Russia (SMF) has now reached 56%, but it will increase to 100% by 2020, the SMF Commander Sergey Karakaev said Friday.
"The share of new missile systems will be constantly increasing. Today it is already up to 56%. The chief commander set a task for us to increase the share of modern missile systems to 100%," Karakaev was quoted as saying by the SMF press service.
The Strategic Missile Forces of Russia were established in 1959. The headquarter of the SMF is located in the village Vlasikha in Moscow region. The SMF's main arsenal consists of Russia's ground-based intercontinental ballistic missiles armed with nuclear warheads.
