US Sending More Weapons, Advisers to Iraq Without Change in Strategy
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Coalition forces in Syria carried out one airstrike on a Daesh tactical unit near the group’s stronghold of Raqqa, which destroyed an Daesh vehicle, CENTCOM said.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted one strike using remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets," the statement said on Tuesday.

In Iraq, the coalition carried out airstrikes near eight cities, including Mosul, where they destroyed two Daesh assembly areas, three supply caches, two vehicle borne improvised explosive devices, a storage facility, a fighting position and a bed down location.

"Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted 17 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber, ground-attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets," the US Central Command said.

The US-led coalition of over 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq against Daesh since summer 2014.

On Monday, US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter announced the United States will be sending at least 200 more advisers along with mobile rocket launchers and Apache gunship helicopters to back up the Iraqi drive to retake Mosul.
