Over 3,500 Russian artillerymen used around 1,000 pieces of advanced military hardware during exercises in the North Caucasus, the Southern Military District’s press service said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The drills were held in Russia’s Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Republic of Dagestan, the Chechen Republic and the territory of South Ossetia.

"Special attention was paid to mastering the new Zoopark-1 radar systems, the Khrizantema-S mobile anti-tank missile systems, modern self-propelled Msta-S howitzers, upgraded Tornado-G multiple rocket launcher systems and Podnos mortars," the press service said.

Artillerymen reinforced performance skills on new pieces of hardware equipped with automated fire control systems. They worked out coordination with motor rifle and tank formations, as well as air defense and aviation units, the district added.
