BALTIYSK (Sputnik) — At the moment, the construction of new quays and the modernization of existing ones, as well as the deepening of the port basin are in progress at Baltiysk. The reconstruction is expected to enable advanced warships to be deployed at the base.

"It is important to construct not only military, but also social and cultural infrastructure. Before the warships enter the harbor, the base, quays and other facilities for their maintenance, as well as residential housing and other social facilities, should be constructed," Shoigu said.

Shoigu also ordered Western Military District Commander Col. Gen. Andrey Kartopolov to work out a complex development program for the base in Baltiysk.
