WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Two hundred participants from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Norway took part in the 2016 ICEX exercise, according to the release.
"The objectives of demonstrating presence, gaining additional Arctic operational experience, furthering partnerships and expanding scientific research were all achieved over the four weeks in which the ice camp was operational," Tofalo stated.
"What we have learned, and the data collected by everyone, will only further our understanding of this region, and improve our operating capabilities in such an unpredictable environment," Estrada noted.
The Navy also pointed out that the attack submarines Hampton and Hartford will remain in the Arctic to continue under-ice operations until early April.
