The Iraqi Defense Ministry said Monday that Russia had not delivered military aid to the Iraqi Kurds to aid in their fight against the Daesh extremist group, the ministry's spokesman told Sputnik, refuting media reports.

ВAGHDAD (Sputnik) — Earlier on Monday, Lebanese Al-Mayadeen television channel reported that Russian military helicopters delivered weapons to the city of Erbil – the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan.

According to the channel, the cargo was intended for the Kurdish Peshmerga militias, who have been leading an active fight against the Daesh. According to the television channel, the delivery of the military aid was carried out in the framework of cooperation between Moscow and Baghdad on the fight against terrorism.

"There has been no such information. This is an absolute lie," Nasser Nouri said.

According to the spokesman, any shipment of arms into the country arrives through the city of Basra, from where it is transported to Baghdad.

"Then, the Ministry of Defense decides whether the weapons should be delivered to any other place," Nouri said.
