The US Department of Defense said that the Sikorsky Aircraft Company, now owned by Lockheed Martin, has won a $387 million contract from the US Army to manufacture additional 35 Black Hawk UH-60M helicopters.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Sikorsky Aircraft Company, now owned by Lockheed Martin, has won a $387 million contract from the US Army to manufacture additional 35 Black Hawk UH-60M helicopters, the US Department of Defense said in an announcement.

“Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., Stratford, Connecticut, was awarded a $387.18 million contract… for 35 UH-60M helicopters,” the announcement stated on Tuesday.

Work will be performed in Stratford, with an estimated completion date of December 31, 2016, according to the Defense Department.

The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk is a four-bladed, twin-engine, medium-lift utility helicopter that has been operated by the US Army since 1979.

Black Hawk helicopters can carry 2,640 pounds (1,200 kg) of cargo internally, including eleven troops or six stretchers, or 9,000 pounds (4,100 kg) of cargo externally.
