Russian navy fleet in 2016 will see a significant broadening of training for captains and captains' senior assistants on ships with naval aviation on board, according to naval aviation Chief Igor Kozhin.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's navy is set to broaden the scope of training programs for its captains and senior captains' assistants as the navy's fleet gains new vessels, naval aviation Chief Igor Kozhin said Sunday.

"In 2016, the navy fleet will see a significant broadening of training for captains and captains' senior assistants on ships with naval aviation on board. This is due to the navy constantly being supplied with new generation ships, which are capable of carrying and operating with aircraft of varying categories and designations," Kozhin told reporters.

Russia's navy fleet is supplied with new frigates, corvettes and guard ships, he added, stressing that every captain must be professionally trained for dealing with the entire range of issues on air traffic and the use naval aviation.

Russia's navy captains are mainly trained in the 859th Center of combat employment and flight crew retraining in Yeysk on the Sea of Azov.
