Afghanistan expects to upgrade its military with at least four Russia-made choppers.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Afghanistan expects to receive four Russian-made combat helicopters from India within days, an acting Afghan Charge d’Affairs to Russia told Sputnik.

"The agreement to deliver helicopters from India is in place, it has been signed," Ahadzada Abdul Ghayour said. "The transfer of the four helicopters from India should take place in the coming days."

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani issued a request for Russian military aid in October, asking for artillery, small arms and Mi-35 helicopters and the export version of the Mi-24V Hind.

Ghayour disclosed that talks were underway to purchase three Mi-35s directly from Russia.

"We need at least two to three helicopters in each district because, as you know, only Mi-35 can perform there," the diplomat underscored.

Earlier in December, Russian Presidential Envoy on Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said Moscow was reviewing Afghan's requests for weapons deliveries with "thought and reason."
