Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company has received an additional $1,171 billion contract to maintain the planned production schedule for 80 F-35A combat aircraft, the US Department of Defense announced.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — More than half the work will be performed at the company’s main facility in Fort Worth, Texas and the rest at different locations around the world, the announcement said.

“[The aircraft are] for the US Air Force; six for… Norway; four for… Turkey; eight for… the Netherlands; eight for… Australia; ten for…Israel; six for… Japan; and ten for… South Korea,” the announcement stated on Monday.

The F-35 program has attracted widespread criticism for its cost overruns and allegedly being unable to totally fulfil the capabilities claimed for it in all its various roles.
