NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – The first joint Indian-Australian naval drills, titled Ausindex, will begin September 12, the Australian High Commission in India said in a statement on Wednesday.
The week-long maritime exercise will take place in the Indian eastern city of Visakhapatnam and in the Bay of Bengal, according to the statement.
Three vessels of the Royal Australian Navy, including the HMAS Arunta frigate, the HMAS Sirius tanker and the HMAS Sheean submarine, as well as Royal Australian Air Force AP-3C surveillance aircraft are expected to arrive in India to drill with the Indian Navy.
The drills will include surface and anti-submarine exercises, as well as shore-based tasks, according to the statement.
