Russian missile-carrying ships based on the Kamchatka Peninsula conducted a military drill in the Pacific Ocean, said Captain 1st rank Roman Martov, the director of the press service of the Far Eastern Military District.

"During the drill, mini aircraft carriers Moroz, Iney and Smerch occupied the areas of their combat duty and started air defense patrol at Avachinsky Bay," Martov said.

Throughout the day, all ships successfully conducted the drill, defending against air raids from an imaginary enemy under simulated conditions extremely similar to a real attack.

Last week, the Russian Defense Ministry's Eastern Military District's press service informed that missile divisions were placed on high alert in Kamchatka for military exercises on Russia's Pacific Coast.

Over 400 missile service personnel will practice anti-air defense drills.

Last week, the troops of Russia's Eastern Military District took part in the second stage of Russia-China Joint Sea 2015 maritime exercises.

Earlier in June, the Eastern Military District's troops of Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense practiced camouflage activities during a field exercise.

The drills are among a series of 4,000 military exercises announced by the Russian Defense Ministry for 2015.
