An amendment to the 2016 National Defense Appropriations Act would boost funding for US-Israel missile defense programs, a press release from Congressman Peter Roskam’s office said on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The amendment was added after Meng and Roskam send a joint letter to the House of Representatives Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, the release said.

“Roskam and Congresswoman Grace Meng… secured increased aid for cooperative US-Israel missile defense systems including Iron Dome, Arrow, Arrow 3 and David’s Sling,” the release said.

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon raised concerns that the United States' move to supply various Gulf Arab states with arms as a counterweight to Iran could weaken Israel's own US-backed regional military dominance. - Sputnik International

A “robust missile defense infrastructure” is important to the security of Israel and these programs have also created American jobs and advanced US military technology, the statement noted.

Meng said in the release that Israel was under constant threat from Hamas, Iran, and Hezbollah and needed resources to defend itself.

The measure must now go before the US Senate to be approved and then it must be confirmed at a reconciliation conference between the Senate's and House of Representatives' versions of the defense appropriations bill.
