Russia, India to Conduct Joint Naval Drills

Russia will hold naval exercises in 2015 with India, one of country's key partners in the Asian region, a spokesperson for Russia's Eastern Military District said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the spokesperson, the parties will agree on the area for the drills, the goals of the naval exercises, as well as on logistical support during the upcoming consultations.

"The first conference on preparations for the joint Russian-Indian naval exercises Indra Navy-2015 will take place in Vladivostok between June 1 and 4," Col. Alexander Gordeev said.

Russia and India have been conducting joint military drills annually since 2003.

In July 2014, the Russian Pacific Fleet and the Indian Navy conducted naval exercise Indra-2014 in the Sea of Japan, to train and improve joint naval actions and boost the countries' capabilities to jointly cope with maritime security threats.

During the exercise, the Russian and Indian ships held tactical maneuvering drills and practiced artillery and missile firings, as well as helicopter deck-landing.
