Russia's Air Defense Units Redeployed as Part of Snap Combat Drills
Combat units of the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Russian Central Military District will repel airstrikes by a simulated enemy in the Astrakhan Region during a snap readiness check, the Defense Ministry reported Wednesday.

"On arrival at the firing ranges, anti-aircraft forces crews deployed their weaponry and military equipment and – as soon as possible – entered on duty to strengthen standby forces in given directions," the report read.

The snap combat readiness check of the air-defense aviation and personnel of the Central Military District was started by the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It kicked off on Monday and will run until May 28.

The check involved nearly 12,000 servicemen, up to 250 planes and helicopters and some 700 pieces of weaponry and military equipment.
