The Buyan-M class small-sized gunnery ships are an upgraded version of the Project 21630 Buyan-class corvettes. They are equipped with a single A-190 100mm cannon, AK-630M anti-aircraft guns, 14.5mm and 7.62mm machineguns, Kalibr anti-ship missiles and Igla-1M surface-to-air missiles.

The brand new missile carrier ship, manufactured by the Zelenodolsk Shipyard, is a multi-purpose river-sea type corvette designed for anti-surface warfare. It is primarily meant for protecting Russia's offshore economic zones.

The first two BM ships, Grad Sviyazhsk and Uglich, were commissioned in 2014. They were assigned to the Caspian flotilla and are stationed in the Caspian Sea.

In total, the Russian Navy will receive nine Project 21631 corvettes.
