The USS Jason Dunham guided-missile destroyer will enter the Black Sea on April 3, 2015, "to promote peace and stability in the region," according to the statement published on the US 6th Fleet's official website.

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham is going to enter the Black Sea waters on April 3, 2015, in order to "promote peace and stability in the region," the statement published by the US 6th Fleet read.

"The ship's presence in the Black Sea demonstrates the United States' commitment to working closely with allies to enhance maritime security and stability, readiness, and naval capability; and our commitment to promote peace and stability to our NATO allies in the region," the statement said.

The guided-missile destroyer is currently located in the Aegean Sea. The warship will enter the Black Sea in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, aimed at supporting NATO allies in Eastern Europe.

In January, the USS Donald Cook, another American guided-missile destroyer, took part in joint military drills in the Black Sea together with the Ukrainian Navy ship the UKRS Hetman Sahaidachny. The USS Donald Cook left the Black Sea on January 14, 2015.

Over the last year American warships such as the USS Mount Whitney, USS Taylor, USS Truxtun, USS Donald Cook, USS Vella Gulf, USS Ross, USS Gunston Hall, and the USS Cole have carried out missions in the Black Sea.
