WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Air Force signed a $529 million contract to purchase guided Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), US defense contractor Raytheon announced in a statement on Tuesday.
“Raytheon was awarded a $528,797,459 fixed-price incentive, firm target contract modification for Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM),” the statement said. “Raytheon will provide AMRAAM Lot 29 missiles and other AMRAAM system items.”
The AMRAAM is a guided missile capable of hitting targets out-of-sight of firing aircraft or ground-based launchers.
AMRAAM is currently used by 36 countries on a number of aircraft, including the F-16, F-22 and F-35.
The deal announced on Tuesday will include foreign military sales, Raytheon said.
