The US Defense Department stated that the US and international anti-Islamic State Coalition forces conducted 19 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US and international anti-Islamic State Coalition military forces launched 19 airstrikes that degraded the militant group's capabilities in Syria and Iraq, the US Defense Department said in a statement.

“Attack, fighter, bomber and remotely piloted aircraft conducted seven airstrikes in Syria,” the statement, issued on Tuesday, said. “Attack, fighter, bomber and remotely piloted aircraft conducted 12 airstrikes in Iraq.”

In Syria, airstrikes destroyed two ISIL tactical units, two vehicles near Hasakah and five tactical units and five fighting positions near Kobani, the Defense Department reported.

Airstrikes in Iraq obliterated an ISIL checkpoint near Qaim; two tactical units, a weapons storage facility, and four crossing points near Fallujah; two tactical units, eight vehicles, three buildings, and a heavy machine gun near Kirkuk; a staging area near Mosul; and a tactical unit near Ramadi, the statement said.

An airstrike near Hit in Anbar province had inconclusive results, according to the Defense Department.

The airstrikes were a part of Operation Inherent Resolve, whose goal is to eliminate the ISIL militants and the threat they pose to Iraq, Syria, the Middle East and the rest of the world.
