MOSCOW, October 29 (RIA Novosti) — The majority of the British do not favor their country's military mission in Afghanistan, YouGov said Wednesday referring to its recent poll.
Specifically, the poll found that 49 percent of Britons regard Britain's military intervention in Afghanistan as not worthwhile, while 29 percent of them think it was.
What is more, the overwhelming majority, 75 percent, believe that the withdrawal of British forces from Afghanistan has been a right decision, with only 7 percent of them disagreeing to the end of the mission in the Central Asian country.
The UK Defense Ministry declared on Monday that the British armed forces had left the final camp in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan.
British armed forces had been deployed in Afghanistan since October 2001 when troops were sent in by NATO as part of its response to the terrorist attacks of September 11 in the United States. A total of 453 British soldiers have been killed over the 13 years.
