Iran to Raise Issue of US JCPOA Violations at Joint Commission Meeting

Iran will raise the issue of JCPOA violations on Iran's nuclear program made by the US at the forthcoming joint commission meeting.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iran will raise the issue of violations of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program by the United States at the meeting of JCPOA joint commission, local media reported Friday, citing Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araghchi.

The eighth session of JCPOA joint commission kicked off in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Friday.

During a conversation with reporters on Thursday in Vienna, Araghchi said that the United States had violated JCPOA in some cases and this issue would be raised at the meeting of the joint commission, the Tasnim news agency reported.

The participants attending the Joint Commission meeting include the P5+1 countries, namely, China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, as well as the European Union and Iran.

The JCPOA, which was agreed in July 2015 lifts nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran in exchange for assurances that Tehran’s nuclear program will remain peaceful.

According to the deal, the sides also agreed to refrain from policies intended to affect Iran's trade and economic relations, which is now violated by the new US administration, as US President Donald Trump urged other nations at the G20 summit in German port city of Hamburg earlier in July to stop doing business with Iran.

During the election campaign and after becoming the US president, Trump repeatedly promised to review the Iran nuclear deal and slammed the administration of former US President Barack Obama for signing the agreement.
